So you want to buy an Aircraft?
Disclaimer: This checklist is not aimed at anyone or any store.
We simply wanted to provide a "How to" when deciding to buy a product.
This list can be used on any Second life product. Not just aircraft.
If you would like to voice your concerns leave a comment or IM Kev Barony on second life.
I WANT SOMTHING NEW!
There comes a time where each and every one of us want to invest in something new. It may be something you've had your eye on for some time, or something that JUST came out, or simply a real life replica you’d love to have. However, who should you buy from? Is the product legitimate? Is it LEGAL? All these questions and more should come to mind when approaching a vender with your hard-earned cash.
What Exactly do I Want...?
It seems like a simple question but we really have to stop and think if we really want that product...
Is it because everyone else is using it? Is it because it’s your favorite thing in real life? Is it just because it's shiny? Stop and think for a minute with this checklist
-Will I use it constantly?
-Can I use it?
-Is it worth the time?
-Is it worth the money?
-What does everyone else say about it?
-Is it LEGAL!?
-Yay or Nay
These are the things you should keep in mind while shopping for something new...
Let me go over them a bit more in detail.
Will I use it Constantly?
Think about your MP3 players track list. You purchased all the music you "Love" but in reality, how many of those songs do you still listen too? And which one do you play over and over again.
Same idea can be brought into products. In the case of aircraft will you be using it constantly?
A great tip is if the vender has a demo you can try out, take advantage of that.
You'll get to experience firsthand how the aircraft flies and handles before making that purchasing decision.
Fly that demo a few times, if you keep coming back to that demo then it may be a sign that you will not be wasting time and money for this product.
If there is no demo to try, ask a friend who owns the aircraft. Or ask the creator for a test run, Chances are they will let you try the product once or twice. After all a good marketer and vender would want you to be happy with a purchase...
Can I Use IT?
We are all limited to what our computers can handle but sometimes aircraft and other products aren’t exactly made with optimization in mind.
You need to ask yourself and others "Does this make my computer lag" and "Does it sim cross well...?"
Again we go back to testing the aircraft and product itself. Ask for demonstrations whether it be from a friend or from the creator them self. They want to sell you their aircraft and want you to be happy with it so don’t be afraid to go to the creator!
Well? Is it? Do you want to repaint it? Can you repaint it? And if you can is it difficult? Is the aircraft complicated to use or is it too simple and boring?
How much time and effort are you willing to put into the aircraft or product?
That ultimately decides if the product is worth your time.
Sit down and read the aircraft manual and notecards. If they aren’t openly available ask someone who owns the aircraft, or ask the creator. Don't just wing it and hope for the best. Be an educated consumer!
Is It Worth The Money?
HOW MUCH?!
This is important, Very important because the next thing you buy could be the difference between one very expensive aircraft... or 5 cheap aircraft.
Is the aircraft you want really worth that much money? Talk to other pilots who own the aircraft and ask them what they think. Ask how often they fly it, if they have any problems flying it, Ask about all the features. The more you ask the better you'll feel, and the more you'll know if you want to put down the money.
10,000L could get you ONE bad aircraft or 5 Fantastic aircraft or vice versa. Just know what you’re putting your money down for!
What Does Everyone Else Say About It?
This goes back to being an educated consumer.
Talk to others who own the aircraft. Join aviation groups and ask your questions there. The aviation community, actual users should be able to guide you and help you understand the aircrafts strengths and weaknesses.
When asking people ALWAYS look for the good and the bad. Ask what problems the aircraft has... what others wish the aircraft have any sort of negative.
No product is perfect, anyone pushing the aircraft or product to have NO imperfections what so ever might be scamming you out of your money.
Beware and pick your sources carefully! The same goes for marketplace reveiws! Look out for "Buts" "I Wish" "Could of" becouse again, no aircraft or product is perfect...
IS IT LEGAL?!
This is very important in buying ANYTHING. Purchasing an illegal aircraft (Even unknowingly) can result in its deletion from your inventory with NO refund. No money back, A total loss for trusting a dishonest "Vendor".
Unfortunately there is no "For Sure" way of checking if an aircraft is legal but there are a few tell signs you can look out for while shopping for your aircraft.
Alt-Cam the product, check every nook and crany of it... if you find detail in places you cannot normally reach or open that can be a sign of a stolen model. on an airliner for example, Check the over head baggage. if the insides are modeled but you cannot open the door that is a sign that the aircraft might have been stolen.
Another tip would be to tap CTRL+ALT+T which allows you to see invisible prims.
If you see a large box around your aircraft hull, that aircraft might be stolen.
Beware and keep a sharp eye out for these and other signs of pirated products to keep your money and purchases safe!
So...Yay or Nay?
So now that you've done all the proper research, you know the aircraft or product inside and out and you know what everyone else has to say about it what do you say...?
Do you buy the aircraft or not? That choice is still yours but I do hope that this helped you make your decision in buying your product!
Extra Notes...
I stressed talking to creators alot in this, consider how the creators were toward you. Can you go to them whenever you need help after you buy? Do they treat you with respect? Thats not to say you should demand and conquer! just treat them as you would want to be treated. After all, they started out as (and still are) customers themselves.
Once again I hope this helps you all! Blue Skies Everyone!
